Stop Sharing

Sharing your Position (what other apps call your location) ends the moment you say so. There is no delay, nothing to confirm twice, and no state where you have asked to stop and are still visible.

Stop one Group

1. On the map screen, tap the capsule at the top. A sheet opens listing every Group you are sharing with, soonest to end first.
2. Find the Group and tap Stop on its row.

That is it — the list itself is the confirmation, because you have just read the name of the Group you are ending. The other sessions keep running.

If you are sharing with exactly one Group, there is no list to pick from, so the app asks first and names the Group in the question.

Stop everything

The same sheet has a footer that ends every session at once. It asks first, because it reaches further than any row you can see — including, occasionally, a session the list did not manage to show you.

You can also reach it without opening the map: the Profile tab has a row that stops sharing with all groups, near the top. Use that one if you want to be certain you are invisible and would rather not read a list to be sure.

⚠️ The confirmation for a single Group is titled Stop Sharing and so is the button on the Group’s own screen. They do the same thing to one Group. The all-at-once confirmation is titled Stop All Sharing, and that is the one to read carefully.

Stop from the Group’s own screen

Open the Groups tab, tap the Group, and use Stop Sharing. This is the same act as tapping Stop on that Group’s row in the sheet, asked as a question instead.

Stop from the notification, on Android

While a session is running, Android keeps a notification in the tray. It carries a Stop Sharing action, so you can end sharing without unlocking into the app.

What stopping does, and does not, do

• It ends the session, for everybody in that Group, immediately. Your Position stops being sent and your friends stop seeing a live dot for you.
• It does not remove you from the Group. You are still a member, and you can start a new session whenever you like — see leaving a Group if that is what you actually want.
• It does not remember the length of time you had picked. Starting again means choosing a Sharing Duration again, which the confirmation says: you will need to pick a new duration to start again.
• It does not delete the positions already sent. What is kept and for how long is on where your position data goes.

If a stop does not go through

Stopping needs to reach the server, so it can fail on a bad connection — and the app tells you when it has, rather than pretending it succeeded. You get a notification headed Couldn’t stop sharing, saying that you are still sharing your location and to check your connection and try again. Take it at its word: you are still visible until a stop actually reaches the server, and closing the app is not a way to stop sharing.
