Let a colleague edit your map
A Collaborator is somebody you let edit one of your Maps. They are a peer co-editor, not a co-owner: they can change what is on the Map and they cannot change what happens to it.
Add one
- Open the Map and go to its Collaborators tab.
- Enter their phone number — the one they sign into FriendTrack with.
- Add them.
They must already have a FriendTrack account. There is no invitation for somebody who has not signed up: ask them to install the app and sign in first, then add them.
The Map then appears in their library, under Shared with me in the editor and marked Shared in the app’s My Maps.
⚠️ Adding a Collaborator needs FriendTrack Pro — yours, not theirs. A Collaborator needs no subscription at all. If you meet the upgrade screen here, that is the reason: what Pro gets you.
What a Collaborator can do
- Place, move and delete Anchor Points, and recalibrate.
- Draw, name, colour, edit and delete Areas of Interest, and their floors.
- Change the Map’s name, description and icon.
In short: everything about the Map’s content.
What a Collaborator cannot do
This is the half that matters, because it is the half people assume wrongly:

Everything about the Map’s lifecycle stays with you. So a Collaborator can draw the whole venue and still cannot publish it, and cannot remove it from under you.
Two more things worth knowing
Editing is not real-time. Two people editing the same Map at once do not see each other’s changes live, and the last save wins. Agree who is doing what, or take turns — it is not a document with cursors in it.
Collaborators survive a new Map Version and are dropped by a fork. Publishing a corrected version keeps your co-editors; somebody building on a published Map of theirs starts with none. See build on someone else’s published map.
Removing one
You can remove a Collaborator at any time, and they can remove themselves — the app and the editor both offer a way to leave a Map shared with you.
Removal takes away access and nothing else. Edits they already made stay: they are part of the Map now, not attributed to them and not rolled back. If you want the Map as it was before they touched it, that is a matter of editing it, not of removing them.
If your Pro lapses
The Map freezes for everybody, including your Collaborators, along with everything else beyond the free allowance. Nothing is deleted and it all comes back when you subscribe — if your subscription lapses.
What this is not
- It is not how you let friends use a Map. For that you need nothing at all — see let your Group use an unpublished map.
- It is not co-ownership. A Map has exactly one owner, and that never changes hands.
