Name an Area and give it an icon

An Area’s Name is the most reused string in your Map. It is drawn on the picture, it appears beside a person’s name as 📍 at Food Court, and it is what an arrival notification says — Dave arrived → Food Court. So write the name people at the venue actually say: Food Court, Lift 2, Orange Stage. Not Catering Zone B, and not a code from the site plan that only staff know.

Keep it short. It has to fit beside a name in a list on a phone, and a long one is truncated exactly where the distinguishing part usually is.

Description is optional and is not shown in those places — treat it as a note to yourself and to any collaborator, not as copy for readers.

The Color is how the Area is drawn on the map, and the icon is picked from Choose Map Icon with a search box. Both are recognition aids rather than meaning: pick something obviously associated with the place and move on. Nothing in the app reads a colour as a category, and nobody navigates by icon — but a venue where every Area is the same colour is harder to read at a glance than one where the bars, the stages and the car parks differ.

Names and icons can be changed freely while the Map is unpublished, and not at all afterwards without a new Map Version — see a published map cannot be edited. Renaming an Area after people have installed the Map means two Groups describing the same place differently, so it is worth getting right before publishing.
