Install the map a friend is using

Using a venue’s own branded FriendTrack app? Your app carries the venue’s name and shows a Powered by FriendTrack note, and it is locked to that venue’s Map. That build has no My Maps tab, no catalog and nothing to switch between, so this page does not apply to it. Everything else here is the same app underneath and works exactly as described — Groups, Sharing, Meeting Points, notifications and your account — and you can share a Group with somebody using ordinary FriendTrack.

Everybody you can see on the map is on the same Map as you. So the quickest fix for I can’t see anyone is often not a setting at all: it is installing the Map they are on.

The prompt

When somebody you are sharing with has a Map you do not, the map screen says so by name, along with who is using it, and offers Install to see the same map view. Tap Install and you are on their Map.

You get that prompt only about people you are actively sharing with. A member of a Group nobody is currently sharing with does not advertise their Map to you, and you do not advertise yours to them.

Why it is offered rather than done for you

Switching your Map changes what you are looking at, and FriendTrack does not do that on its own — a Map you did not choose appearing under you mid-conversation is worse than a prompt. It also costs against your allowance: on the free tier you hold one Map, so an automatic install would have to displace something.

If there is no prompt

Then nobody you are sharing with is on a different Map, and the reason you cannot see somebody is something else:

• They are not sharing, or their phone has produced no Position (what other apps call your location) — my friend is sharing but isn’t on the map.
• They are outside the picture, in a car park or on a road the Map does not cover.
• Nobody in the Group has a Map at all, in which case there is nothing to install and the Friends list is what you have.

Doing it by hand

If you know the venue’s name you do not have to wait to be offered it — search the catalog for it: find and install a map. Once you both hold it, switching between Maps you already have is one tap in My Maps.
