Let an AI assistant build the map
You do not have to place every Anchor Point by hand. Build a map with your AI at
friendtrack.net/build-with-ai gives you a prompt to paste into your own assistant — Claude,
ChatGPT, or any capable one — and it does the upload, the calibration and the Areas of Interest
through the FriendTrack API.
This is an alternative to the whole arc, not a replacement for understanding it: you still review what comes out, and the pages on calibration are what tell you whether it did a good job.
How it works
- Open the page and use Copy prompt.
- Paste it into a fresh chat with your assistant, and fill in the last line with the venue you want — and attach or link the image if you already have one.
- The assistant reads FriendTrack’s own guide for assistants and follows it end to end.
- When it asks, read back the one six-digit code FriendTrack texts to your phone. That is the only code needed for the whole build.
- It uploads your image, calibrates it with Anchor Points, verifies the calibration, and draws the Areas of Interest.
- The finished Map appears in your Maps list, ready to review or publish.
⚠️ What the code you read out actually grants
This is the part to understand before you do it, because reading a sign-in code to anything is a thing to be careful about.
Relaying that code hands the assistant a maps-only key that lasts about 24 hours. With it, the assistant can create and edit your maps, and:
- it cannot see your contacts, your Groups or your friends;
- it cannot see anyone’s live Position (what other apps call your location);
- it cannot change your account or sign in anywhere else;
- the key expires on its own after about a day, and there is no renewal.
So it is narrower than a normal sign-in, deliberately. Still, treat the code like any sign-in code: read it out only to an assistant you trust, and only while you are actually building a map. If somebody asks you for a FriendTrack code in any other context, that is not this.
What you still have to do yourself
- Supply a usable image, and check it. The guide tells the assistant to check with you before using any image, and to use only a geometrically faithful one. Why that matters is choose and prepare a venue image — an assistant cannot rescue a photograph taken at an angle any more than you can.
- Check the calibration. Read the Calibration Quality figure and the heat map afterwards, the same way you would for a Map you made by hand: read the accuracy heat map.
- Decide about publishing. Nothing is submitted to the catalog on your behalf — keep it private, or list it publicly.
When to use it, and when not to
Worth it for a venue where you have an image and a rough idea of the landmarks, and would rather not click forty Areas of Interest by hand.
Not worth it for a small Map you could draw in ten minutes, or where the coordinates are the hard part — an assistant has the same problem you do: what you need before you start.
Review it either way. The result is a Map with your name on it, and a badly calibrated Map puts real people in the wrong place at a real venue.
