Delete a map
Deleting a Map removes it, its image, its Anchor Points and its Areas of Interest. It is permanent and it is not undoable, so it is worth ten seconds deciding whether it is what you actually want.
Do it
Open the Map in your Library and use its delete control. You are asked to confirm.
Deleting frees the slot it occupies against your allowance — on the free tier you own one Map, so deleting one is how you make room for another. See the free allowance.
What it does to other people
If the Map was never published, nothing: only you and the Groups you shared it with had it, and they lose it.
If the Map was published, its installers lose it. Their copy stops working and the app tidies the reference away, so it disappears from their list of maps — the map I installed has disappeared from their side. They are not told why, because the app is not told.
That is why deleting a published Map at short notice is unkind rather than merely tidy: somebody may be relying on it at a venue today.

Taking a Map out of the catalog is the reversible version of deleting it, and it is nearly always the right first move for anything that has been public.
One case you cannot delete out of
A Map that has become unowned cannot be deleted by anybody, including you. That happens when the account that owned it is deleted: published Maps survive with the ownership removed, and from then on the Map is frozen — not editable, not versionable, and not removable. So if you intend to close your account and would rather your published Maps were gone, delete them first. See delete your account.
