Invite someone to a Group

Everybody joins a Group the same way underneath: with the Group’s Invite Code. The QR code and the link are two convenient ways of carrying that one code, not three separate mechanisms.

Get the code

  1. Open the Groups tab and tap the Group.
  2. Find INVITE CODE. If the Group has no live code yet, tap 🔑 Generate Invite Code.
  3. The code appears — eight characters, letters and digits.

Beside it are 📋 Copy and 📤 Share. Share hands your phone’s usual share sheet a link, which is the option to reach for most of the time.

  • The link looks like https://friendtrack.net/invite/ABCD1234. Tapping it on a phone with FriendTrack installed opens the app on a confirmation screen naming the Group. On a phone without it, the page offers the app first.
  • The QR code carries that same link. Anybody joining can scan it from Join a Group in their own app.
  • The code itself is eight characters and is not case-sensitive, so it can be read out loud without spelling out capitals.

One code, for the whole Group

This is the part worth knowing before you hand anything out: a Group has one live Invite Code at a time, and everybody joins with the same one. You do not get a personal code per invitation, and neither does anybody else.

So a code you sent last week is the same code somebody else may have sent yesterday, and generating a new one takes the old one out of use for everyone who is still holding it. What that means when somebody tells you their code does not work is on the invite code doesn’t work.

What an invite does and does not do

  • It gets them into the Group. They can see who else is in it, and share with it.
  • It does not make them share. They choose whether and for how long, exactly as you do.
  • It does not show them where you are unless you have a session running with that Group.
  • It does not make them an admin. Who runs the Group is on who runs a Group.

If you would rather they came to you

There is nothing to do at your end when somebody already has the code — joining needs no approval and there is no request for you to accept. If you want somebody out again, that is remove someone from a Group.
