Share with one Group and not another

Sharing your Position (what other apps call your location) is something you do with one Group at a time. Starting a session with your ski group does not start one with your work group, and there is no global switch that turns you on for everybody.

Each session is separate

Every session has its own Sharing Duration and its own end time. You can hold several at once:

• four hours with the group you are skiing with,
• one hour with the group you are meeting for lunch,
• nothing at all with the other three Groups you are in.

Each one is started from its own Group’s screen, and each one can be stopped without touching the others.

Which Group sees what

A Group only ever sees the sessions you started with that Group. A person who is in two of your Groups sees you in whichever of them you are sharing with, and does not learn anything about the other from it.

How to tell what you are sharing right now

The capsule at the top of the map screen counts down the session that ends last — the answer to “when do I stop being visible to anyone” rather than “what changes next”. When more than one session is running it says how many Groups instead of a single duration, so the useful fact is on screen rather than the longest of several numbers.

Starting a second session

Nothing special is needed. Open the other Group and pick a length of time exactly as you did the first, and the two run alongside each other: Start Sharing with a Group.

Your phone does the location work once, no matter how many Groups you are sharing with, so a second session costs you nothing extra in battery.
