Pick your Current Map

Using a venue’s own branded FriendTrack app? Your app carries the venue’s name and shows a Powered by FriendTrack note, and it is locked to that venue’s Map. That build has no My Maps tab, no catalog and nothing to switch between, so this page does not apply to it. Everything else here is the same app underneath and works exactly as described — Groups, Sharing, Meeting Points, notifications and your account — and you can share a Group with somebody using ordinary FriendTrack.

You can hold several Maps and look at one at a time. The one you are looking at is your Current Map, and it decides two things: which picture the map screen draws, and which of your friends appear on it.

Change it

  1. Open the My Maps tab.
  2. Under YOUR MAPS, tap the Map you want.

That is all. Each Map is marked Owned if you made it, Installed if you added it from the catalog, or Shared if somebody let your Group use theirs.

Who sees which Map you chose

The Groups you are actively sharing with, and nobody else. That is what lets the app tell them your friend is using this Map and offer them Install — see install the map a friend is using.

Two consequences worth knowing:

  • Not sharing means not advertising. A Group nobody is currently sharing with learns nothing about your Map choice.
  • It is one choice, not one per Group. If you have overlapping sessions — say an open-ended one with your family and a four-hour one with a trip group — both of those Groups see the same Current Map, whichever venue it is for. If that matters to you, the way to scope it is to scope your sharing sessions rather than your Maps: share with one Group and not another.

What is shared is the Map’s identity, so that they can install the same one. Not your Position, not anything about your movements on it.

Having no Current Map

Perfectly usable. The Friends list still shows who is sharing and how fresh each Position (what other apps call your location) is; what you do not get is a picture to place them on. The map screen then offers Select a Map instead of drawing one.
